Phoa Hoa @ Setia City Mall

Phoa Hoa noodle Soup

It has been awhile since I had a bowl of hot, steaming pho, the famous Vietnamese beef noodle soup. Since we've been feeling unwell due to the long traveling hours last weekend, we decided to have a dose of beefy broth for our tired souls. So, pho it is, from Phoa Hoa, a chain Vietnamese restaurant specializing in pho, in the newly opened Setia City Mall.

It was an excellent choice. We started with a platter of fresh spring rolls wrapped in rice paper. The ingredients included shredded cucumber, carrots, blanched prawn and chicken, played up by a tangy, distinctively Vietnamese sauce.

Pho, the beef noodle soup.

Lime, basil, mint, bean sprouts and bird's eye's chili.

Beef slices so thin, it moves as the wind blows.

The beef noodle soup, or pho, is a much celebrated dish in this restaurant. The beef topping included beef steak, brisket, tendon, meatballs, tripe and other beef parts, are indicated clearly in the menu, and we were delighted to be able to choose what we wanted. The garnishing, such as bean sprouts, mint leaves, basil leaves, bird eye's chili and lime is separately served, and we can indicate the amount of garnishes that we wanted.

Service was attentive, and exceeded our expectations, despite the newly opened restaurant. We would definitely revisit for the food as well as the service.

We went and check out Setia City Mall because we were curious about how this place is compared to Paradigm Mall. From what we see, occupancy as of now, is still rather low. There's Parkson, Urban Fresh and Uniqlo, to name a few, plus a dozen of food places. It was already dark when I was there so I can't get to see the lake and fountain clearly. We quite liked the restaurants overseeing the lake as it was more peaceful to dine without seeing the shoppers compared to indoor dining, plus the lakeview is a nice accompaniment. However, some outdoor restaurants (such as Phoa Hoa) is not accessible indoors, and we had to walked out of the front door first. The mall air conditioner was quite strong, although not as strong as Paradigm Mall on the first day. Setia City Mall seems to be cleaner as well. Parking charges applies eventhough the mall is still new.
